Your future money, in today's dollars.
Most money calculators show you a big number decades away. Real Terms shows what it would actually buy today.

$1,000,000 in 40 years buys about
$372k in today's dollars
At 2.5% a year, prices end up about 2.7 times higher, so that money buys a lot less than it sounds.
About this number. It uses general price inflation (CPI). The 2.5% default is the middle of the Reserve Bank of Australia's 2–3% inflation target (opens in a new tab); actual inflation goes up and down. It's simple arithmetic on the numbers you type, not a forecast. Super projections in the full planner will use ASIC's standard method instead, which adjusts for wage growth (3.7% a year to age 67), so they're on a different basis to this example.
What Real Terms will do
-
Try different lives
Put in your age, city, job and savings in a couple of minutes. Then compare: live at home longer, buy a unit first, use the First Home Super Saver scheme (FHSS), use the 5% Deposit Scheme, or rent and invest instead.
-
Today's dollars, every time
Every figure is shown in what it would buy now. The future-dollar version is one tap away, so you can see the gap.
-
Real Australian rules
Income tax, HELP repayments, super, FHSS, and stamp duty and first-home concessions by state: the rules that simpler calculators skip.
-
Consequences, not instructions
It shows what each choice does to the numbers and leaves the choice to you. Every assumption is visible and changeable. Results are estimates with a range, not promises.
